This commissioned piece was a lot of fun to paint,
Mathilda here was such an unusually beautiful dog
with so little pigment it meant that every line and shadow
really needed to count to give her shape and depth.
Her eyes really are that exceptional -
it's tricky when painting animals with extraordinary looks to them.
It can be hard to ensure that the image looks believable.
This is just one of five portraits I have been working on during the hurricane,
but most cannot be posted until they are gifted,
so this is just the first you can see for now...
